Synthetic bones and implants tailored to each patient are manufactured with a 3D printer
Parts of the skull, jaw and cheekbones are some of the more than 400 pieces that have already been created with this tool in the country and that have even been sent abroad. These synthetic bones are made with a bioinert material that can even be absorbed by the body without having to operate again to remove them.
About 400 patients in Chile and abroad have improved their quality of life thanks to innovative implants made-to-measure in Chile, with 3D technology and synthetic materials that reduce the risk of complications.
These are synthetic bones manufactured by arcomedlab, a national startup that began to apply this technology in the country, especially for the development of cranial and maxillofacial implants, expanding access to these ‘synthetic’ bones to patients who have suffered some type of trauma, strokes, birth malformations, cancer or for aesthetic purposes.
